Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 Review

Lisa Gade reviews the Wacom Cintiq Companion 2, a Windows 8.1 Pro tablet aimed at professional artists. The 3.75 lb. Cintiq 2 is both a tablet PC and a drawing tablet and it uses Wacoms traditional EMR pen with 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt sensing. The 13.3 tablet has a QHD IPS 2560 x 1440 display that supports both the included Wacom Pro Pen and touch. Its available with Intel 5th gen Broadwell dual core 28 watt CPUs with Intel Iris 6100 graphics. You can get it with Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs, 4 to 16 gigs of RAM and 64 to 512 gig SSDs. Its not cheap: prices run from $1,400 to $2,500. Is it better than Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the iPad Pro? Watch our review to find out! This is a computer system or holistic review rather than an artist's demo review-- there are already several artist reviews available on YouTube.

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 260 Review

Lisa Gade reviews the 12.5" Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 260, the successor to the ThinkPad Yoga 12, and the smaller sibling to the 14" ThinkPad Yoga 460 (still sold under the ThinkPad Yoga 14 name by Best Buy in the US). The ThinkPad Yoga 260 is a more affordable alternative to the flagship ThinkPad X1 Yoga, and it has the same Lift n' Lock keyboard, 360 degree hinge and Wacom AES active pen that lives in a silo on the machine's side. The 2.9 lb. Yoga 260 is available with 1366 x 768 and 1920 x 1080 IPS displays with pen and touch. It has a backlit keyboard, Intel 6th generation Skylake dual core 15 watt CPUs (Core i3, i5 and i76 available), a single RAM slot, M.2 SSD and dual band Intel AC 8260 WiFi with Bluetooth 4.1. The base model starts around $1,000, and our Core i5 with 8 gigs of RAM, a SATA3 interface 256 gig SSD and 1080p display sells for $1,400.

Huawei Honor 5X Review

Lisa Gade reviews Huawei's new very affordable unlocked GSM Android smartphone, the $199 Huawei Honor 5X. The aluminum-clad phone has a 5.5" full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS display, and it runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Huawei's Emotion UI 3.1 (EMUI) on the 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core CPU with Adreno 405 graphics. It has 2 gigs of RAM, 16 gigs of storage and a microSD card slot. This is a dual SIM 4G LTE phone that's compatible with GSM carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T in the US, but not Sprint or Verizon. It has a 5MP front camera and a rear 13MP camera with stacked sensor, f/2.0 lens and an LED flash. The phone has a 3,000 mAh battery that's sealed inside.

iPad Pro Long Term Review - 3 Months Later

Lisa Gade shows you what she's been using the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard for in the three months since it's been released, and how that's worked out. She looks at multitasking, MS Office 365, multimedia, photo editing and plenty of art work with Procreate, Pixelmator and Astropad. She talks about design misses and hits, battery life, the benefits and pitfalls of iOS on a giant tablet, and whether it can stand in for a laptop. Cameo appearances by Wacom Cintiq Companion 2, the MacBook Pro (so we can run Photoshop CC on the iPad Pro) and references to the also lovely, but different MS Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book.

Toshiba Chromebook 2 Review

Lisa Gade reviews the Toshiba Chromebook 2, model CB35. This is one of our top picks for Chromebooks thanks to a still reasonable price tag, very good display, optional backlit keyboard and "sweet spot" 13.3" size. The 3 lb. Chromebook 2 is available in configurations from $249 to our $329 model to the high end $429 version with an Intel Core i3 CPU. Our $329 model has a full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS display, 4 gigs of RAM and a backlit keyboard. The machine is available with Intel Celeron dual core CPUs-- N2840 on the lower end models and the 3125U on our middle model. The laptop has dual band Intel WIFi AC 7260, Bluetooth 4.0 and a webcam.

$199 Laptop Review Acer Aspire One Cloudbook 14 and Lenovo Chromebook 100S

Lisa Gade reviews two extremely affordable laptops, the 14" Acer Cloudbook and the 11.6" Lenovo Chromebook 100S (the Lenovo is also available as the IdeaPad 100S with Windows 10). Both sell for $199 and have 1366 x 768 matte TN non-touch displays, Intel Celeron processors, 2 gigs of RAM and eMMC storage. These budget laptops have dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, a webcam with mic, and a basic selection of ports. If your budget is extremely tight or you need a laptop for a child or relative with simple technology needs or perhaps need one for a second home, these might be the machines for you.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Review

Lisa Gade reviews Microsoft's flagship Lumia phablet, the 5.7" 950 XL. In some ways it is simply a larger, faster version of the Lumia 950 we reviewed, but there are other differences including a dual SIM design and a bigger battery. The GSM unlocked Lumia runs Windows 10 for phones on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 2.0 GHz octal-core CPU with Adreno 430 graphics, 3 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of storage. It has a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 200 gigs, a removable 3340 mAh battery, dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and a GPS. The Lumia has a QHD AMOLED display, 4G LTE on a wide selection of bands (works on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the US), a front 5MP camera, rear 20MP PureView camera with Zeiss lens and try-tone LED flash and a Windows Hello camera for iris recognition (biometric authentication). It supports Windows Continuum and has Cortana the virtual assistant. It sells for $649 with no contract.

Asus ZenBook UX303UB Review - Skylake and NVIDIA 940M

Lisa Gade reviews the latest generation (as of Feb. 2016) high end Asus ZenBook 13.3” Ultrabook with a metal chassis and Asus’ signature swirled aluminum lid. The 3.2 lb. ZenBook UX303UB is a generational update to the UX303 line and it packs a lot of premium features into the $1,299 price tag. Specifically we look at model UX303UB-UH47T with a QHD+ 3200 x 1800 glossy touch screen, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6500U dual core CPU, 12 gigs of RAM, a 512 gig SSD, dual band Intel WiFi 802.11ac and NVIDIA 940M 2GB DDR3 dedicated graphics. This is a traditional laptop that competes with the Dell XPS 13, it’s not a convertible with a 360 degree hinge and there’s no active digitizer for a digital pen.
