Windows 10 on the 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016 Touch Bar)
Lisa Gade shows you how Windows 10 runs on the late 2016 Touch Bar edition of the 15” MacBook Pro. The Mac suddenly feels a lot like the Dell XPS 15 once you Bootcamp into Windows 10, with that slim design, small bezels and quad core Intel i7-6700HQ CPU. We test out the oversized trackpad's right click and palm rejection capabilities, see how the Touch Bar works and run Steam to see how the AMD Radeon 450 GPU performs playing Windows games like Fallout 4. We also cover heat, battery life and display scaling.

Razer Blade Review (late 2016, GTX 1060)
Lisa Gade reviews the late 2016 Razer Blade with NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics. The 14" Blade is clad in matte black aluminum and it's a high end and well made machine that competes with the MacBook Pro in terms of design and quality.
** Read our written review here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/2016-Razer-Blade.htm
It weighs just 4.3 lbs./1.95 kg (4.16 lbs. for the 1080p model) and is 17.9mm (0.7”) thick. Its small size and weight are deceptive: this is a powerful gaming and pro apps laptop.
The Razer Blade's ships with the 6th generation Intel Skylake 2.6 GHz Core i7-6700HQ quad core, 45 watt CPU. It has Intel HD 530 graphics switchable with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DDR5 graphics via NVIDIA Optimus. All configurations have 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM and your choice of a 256 or 512 gig PCIe NVMe SSD. It has what might be described as the world's most entertaining notebook keyboard thanks to Chroma backlighting and many available effects with infinite color choice. Excellent Killer 1535AC WiFi with Bluetooth, a 2MP webcam and a very compact 165 watt charger are standard. It starts at $1,799.
You can watch our video review of the mid-2016 (GTX 970M) model here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSu4IxsrkmI

15" Apple MacBook Pro Review (2016, Touch Bar)
Lisa Gade reviews Apple's top of the line laptop, the 15” MacBook Pro with OLED Touch Bar, introduced in November, 2016. The MacBook Pro is thinner (15.5mm) and lighter (4.03 lbs / 1.83kg) than ever, and it sports a much brighter 15.4” display and higher color DCI-P3 color gamut. The resolution remains the same as the outgoing model at 2880 x 1800, and the machine updates the quad core Intel Core i7 CPU and AMD graphics to Skylake 6th generation CPUs and AMD Radeon 450/455/460 graphics. We look at the $2,399 base model with the 2.6 GHz Core i7-6700HQ, 16 gigs of DDR3LP RAM and a 256 gig PCIe SSD. It's available with the Intel Core i7-6820HK CPU and up to 2TB storage, but RAM maxes out at 16 gigs.
The laptop has four full bandwidth Thunderbolt 3/USB-C Gen. 2 ports, one of which is used for charging (any one you like). It has a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and that's the only legacy port. It ships with an 87 watt charger and has a 76 WHr battery. Like the 2016 13” MacBook Pro we recently reviewed, it has Apple's extremely low travel butterfly keyboard, which is an improved version of the keyboard on the 2016 12” MacBook.

Lenovo Yoga 910 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Yoga 910 with a 13.9” IPS touch screen and the Intel 7th generation Core i7-7500U CPU with Intel HD 620 graphics. Lenovo's redesign means this 3.04 lb. Ultrabook has a classier CNC aluminum chassis and a narrow 5mm bezel display. It's available with 8 or 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM and a variety of PCIe SSD capacities. The Yoga 910 features Lenovo's attractive 360 degree watchband hinge and a larger than average display size for its footprint. The laptop has 3.5mm audio, a USB 3.0 type A port and two USB-C ports (they don't support Thunderbolt 3).
The convertible Ultrabook is available with a full HD or 4K display, and it has a backlit keyboard, excellent trackpad, a webcam below the display and a fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello login. Dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and a 78 WHr battery are standard. Pricing is $1,149 for the Core i7 with full HD display, 8 gigs of RAM and a 256 gig SSD. The 4K configuration with 16 gigs of RAM and a 512 gig SSD is $1,499.

Microsoft Surface Book i7 with Performance Base 2016 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the latest Microsoft Surface Book model, the 2016 Performance Base with a much more powerful NVIDIA GTX 965M 2GB GDDR5 graphics processor and a higher capacity battery. This is the new top of the line option for the Surface Book, and the price starts at $2,399 for the Core i7-6600U tablet with 8 gigs of RAM, a 256 gig PCIe NVMe SSD and NVIDIA GTX 965M graphics. The models introduced in 2015 are still available, this new offering simply sits above them in price, GPU performance and battery life.
The clipboard (tablet) section remains the same, but unfortunately, Microsoft won't sell you a performance base separately if you wish to upgrade your existing Book. The 3.6 lb. laptop with detachable tablet has a dual core 15 watt Intel Skylake 6th generation CPU (same as earlier Surface Books), included N-Trig pen, Marvell Avastar dual band WiFi 802.11ac with Bluetooth, a 5MP Windows Hello front camera, 8MP rear camera, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, mini DisplayPort and an MS dock connector (again all the same as the original Book). Graphics performance doubles with the GTX 965M vs. the old 940M equivalent dGPU making video editing and light gaming more viable, and the laptop now has a total of 81 Whr battery capacity for long battery life.

Microsoft Surface Studio First Look
Lisa Gade spends time with the upcoming Microsoft Surface Studio and gives you her first impressions/mini review. This is an all-in-one desktop with a unique gravity hinge that allows you to tilt the 28” Pixel Sense wide gamut DCI-P3 5K (4500 x 3000 resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio) display at a variety of angles (even nearly flat). The display supports touch and the same N-Trig active pen used on the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. The Studio is available with Intel 6th generation Skylake quad core, 45 watt CPUs and your choice of NVIDIA GTX 965M or GTX 980M cards (last gen Maxwell mobile graphics cards). It supports up to 32 gigs of RAM, and ships with a boot SDD plus large capacity SSD.
Ports are decent given the small size of the base- 4 USB 3.0 ports, mini DisplayPort, 3.5mm audio and an SD card slot. Other amenities include a 5MP Windows Hello front camera, 2.1 stereo speakers and WiFi 802.11ac with Bluetooth. The Surface keyboard, mouse and pen are included in the box (the new Surface Dial is $99 unless you pre-order the Studio). Pricing runs from $2,999 to $4,199 and it will be available at the end of 2016 to early 2017. At these prices, it's clearly more of a showcase product and a competitor to high end Wacom graphics workstations rather than a replacement for your everyday AiO.

Alienware 15 R3 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the late 2016 Alienware 15 R3 with NVIDIA Pascal 10 series graphics. Both the NVIDIA GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 cards are available. The Alienware is slim for a gaming laptop at 1” (25.4mm) but not terribly light at 7.7 lbs. (3.4kg). The laptop runs Windows 10 on the Intel Skylake 6th gen quad core 45 watt Core i7-6700HQ with up to 32 gigs of DDR4 RAM in two slots. It has an M.2 boot SSD (most configs are PCIe NVMe) and a 1TB 2.5 inch 7200 RPM HDD. It has Killer WiFi and Ethernet, a Windows Hello IR camera and Tobii eye tracking. AlienFX lighting is standard.
This gaming and pro apps laptop is available with 3 matte, non-touch displays. We have the base 300 nit IPS display and there's a 120Hz TN panel with G-Sync and a 4K Sharp IGZO option. Our IPS model supports NVIDIA Optimus, but the G-Sync model does not. The laptop is available with a 99 Whr battery (which we have in our model) or a 68 Whr battery. It ships with a 240 watt charger. The starting price is $1,349 and a desirable configuration is $1,599. Our model with the GTX 1070, Core i7-6700HQ, 16 gigs RAM, 256 gig PCIe SSD, 1 TB HDD and the IPS display is $1,899 at retailers like Microcenter in the US.

Lisa Gade reviews LG V20 Android flagship smartphone with a 5.7” QHD display plus secondary display. A removable battery, excellent headphone audio, huge display and dual rear cameras are its high points. Thanks to Braintree for supporting our channel. To learn more, go to http://www.braintreepayments.com/techreview .
The phone runs Android 7 Nougat on the Snapdragon 820 CPU with 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of storage. It has the same dual rear camera set up as the LG G5 with a 16MP rear main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera plus a 5MP front camera. The V20 has a removable 3200 mAh battery and a microSD card slot. It has a mostly metal build (the end caps have some plastic to make it MIL-STD 810G-rated for shock and drops). The phone has a high quality ESS Sabre 9218 32 bit quad audio DAC and headphone audio is superb. It also offers lossless audio recording via the built-in 3 mic system. The LG V20 is available on most major carriers and is priced similarly to other flagship smartphones.

13" MacBook Pro Late 2016 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the updated 13” Apple MacBook Pro that came out in October 2016. This is the base $1,499 model without the new Touch Bar. The first major refresh of the MacBook Pro line in several years is controversial because Apple removed most ports and switched to a very low travel keyboard to make a thin laptop even thinner (14.9mm). It's also a half pound lighter than the version it replaces at 3 lbs. thanks largely to a smaller capacity battery afforded in part by a more power efficient display. The keyboard is the same extremely very low travel butterfly keyboard as on the 12” MacBook (with a little more click added). All legacy ports are gone except the headphone jack. The Mac instead has two USB-C gen.2/Thunderbolt 3 ports, one of which is used for charging.
This is a 15 watt dual core Intel Skylake 6th generation laptop with Intel Iris graphics. The more expensive 13” MacBook Pro models have more powerful 28 watt CPUs and Intel Iris 550 graphics in addition to the Touch Bar. The MacBook Pro has an exceptional wide color gamut, 500+ nit, 2560 x 1600 IPS display, a super-sized trackpad, fast PCIe NVMe SSDs, up to 16 gigs of RAM and a traditional Fn row at the top of the keyboard.

HP Spectre x360 Review (late 2016, Kaby Lake)
Lisa Gade reviews the updated 13.3” HP Spectre x360, with a new smaller and lighter design, slim side bezels and 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake dual core i5 and i7 15 watt CPUs. It's available with your choice of 8 or 16 gigs of RAM and 256 or 512 gig PCIe NVMe SSDs. The x360 stays with the attractive and successful aluminum unibody design with polished sides and a unique double-curved rear edge. The new model has lost a half pound and weighs 2.8 lbs. making it competitive with the lighter Ultrabooks on the market, and it's significantly less wide.
As ever, it has a 360 degree hinge for use in laptop, tablet, stand and presentation modes. The laptop has a 1920 x 1080 gloss IPS touch screen, Windows Hello camera for facial recognition login, Intel 8265AC WiFi with Bluetooth, a backlit keyboard and a large glass trackpad. You still get a good deal for your money here with premium construction, two USB-C Gen 2/Thunderbolt 3 ports, a fast Core i7 CPU and NVMe SSD starting at $1,169. HP will also offer models with a Core i5 and 4 gigs of RAM for less money.

Asus ZenBook 3 UX390UA Review
Lisa Gade reviews the incredibly small and light Asus ZenBook 3 UX390UA that directly competes with the 12” MacBook, and indirectly competes with the Dell XPS 13 and Razer Blade Stealth. At 2.09 lbs. (910g) and 11.9mm (0.47”), it's actually slightly smaller and thinner than the MacBook, yet it packs more power with Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake Intel Core i5-7200U and Core i7-7500U dual core 15 watt CPUs with Intel HD 620 graphics. The ZenBook has a rigid aluminum chassis that's available in silver, rose gold and royal blue (all with gold accents).
The laptop has one USB-C 3.1 gen.1 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The $1,099 Core i5 model comes with 8 gigs of RAM and a 256 gig SSD and the $,599 Core i7 model has 16 gigs of RAM and a 512 gig SSD. The ZenBook 3 has a very striking 1920 x 1080 IPS display (non-touch but glossy with Gorilla Glass 4).

Google Pixel XL Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Google Pixel XL, the larger of two Pixel phones released in the fall of 2016. The Pixel line replaces the Nexus line of Android smartphones that come direct from Google with the latest Android build and no carrier or manufacturer bloatware. This time, Google is going with flagship pricing, and the 5” Pixel starts at $649 and the 5.5” Pixel XL starts at $769 (add $100 if you want either with 128 rather than 32 gigs of internal storage). The phones have nearly identical specs other than display size/resolution and battery capacity.
The Pixel XL runs Android 7.1 Nougat with the new Google Assistant (voice activated) on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 CPU with 4 gigs of RAM and 32 or 128 gigs of storage (no microSD card slot). The Pixel XL has a 2560 x 1440 AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 4 (the smaller Pixel is 1920 x 1080). It has an 8MP front camera and a 12.3MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and 4K video recording. Dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and support for Android Pay are standard. HTC builds the phone, but it was designed by Google. In the US the Pixel phones are sold by Verizon, or you can buy them unlocked for use with any carrier direct from Google.

Lenovo Yoga Book Review (Android)
Lisa Gade reviews the Android version of the innovative Lenovo Yoga Book. It uses the same hardware as the Windows version, though it's available in a few more colors and the keyboard masking (layout) is Android-centric.
** Read our full written review here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Lenovo-Yoga-Book.htm
The Yoga Book is a 10.1” tablet with attached keyboard that weighs, 1.5 lb. (690g). It has stunning looks, thanks in part to the flat keyboard design, and is encased in magnesium alloy. It has a 1920 x 1200 IPS touch screen with basic “AnyPen” pen support and a flat surface where the keyboard should be. That's the Create Pad, and it's both a capacitive keyboard and a Wacom EMR digitizer that you can write and draw on (even through paper) with the included pen. The Create pad supports 2,048 pressure levels and has palm rejection, unlike the display digitizer.
The Yoga Book runs a customized version of Android 6.01 Marshmallow on the 1.44 GHz Intel Atom x5-Z8550 CPU with 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of storage. The Yoga Book has dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and optional 4G LTE. It's priced at $500 and the pen and magnetic paper pad are included.

Lenovo Yoga Book Review (Windows 10 Version)
Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Yoga Book, a futuristic tablet/convertible laptop that's available running Windows 10 or Android 6 Marshmallow (we use the Windows version in this video). It's a 10.1", 1.5 lb. ultraportable that you can take anywhere, and its build and design are impeccable. Open it up and you'll see a 1920 x 1200 IPS touch screen with basic “AnyPen” pen support and a flat surface where the keyboard should be. That's the Create Pad, and it's both a capacitive keyboard and a Wacom EMR digitizer that you can write and draw on (even through paper) with the included pen. The Create pad supports 2,048 pressure levels and has palm rejection, unlike the display digitizer.
** Read our full written review here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Lenovo-Yoga-Book.htm
The Yoga Book has specs that are better suited to Android, though both Windows and Android run on the exact same hardware: 1.44 GHz Intel Atom x5-Z8550 CPU, 4 gigs of DDR3LP RAM and 64 gigs of flash storage. Still, it can handle basic Windows tasks decently. The Yoga Book has dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and optional 4G LTE. It's relatively affordable at $500 to $550.

MSI GT72VR Dominator Pro (NVIDIA GTX 1070) Review
Lisa Gade reviews the MSI GT72VR Dominator Pro 17.3” gaming laptop with NVIDIA Pascal GTX 1070 graphics and a quad Core 45 watt Core i7-6700HQ CPU. The refreshed Dominator is still one of our top picks for powerful 17” gaming laptops- MSI packs excellent cooling and a lot of tech inside for the price. Our 015 model lists for $1,999 with a 1920 x 1080 matte IPS G-Sync display, SteelSeries programmable backlit RGB keyboard, Killer DoubleShot WiFi + Ethernet, a boot 128 gig M.2 SATA SSD, 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD and a DVD drive.
Our review loaner came from XoticPC.com and they did a few upgrades for RAM and SSD, so we're not quite running stock. The stock 015 model has a SATA M.2 SSD rather than the very fast Samsung 950 Pro PCIe NVMe SSD in ours, and the stock config has 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM while ours is maxed out at 64 gigs. The laptop weighs 8.33 lbs. (3.78kg) and is 1.88” (48mm )thick. It has a 9 cell battery and a 230 watt charger. Other goodies include USB-C 3.1 Gen. 2, ESS Sabre HiFi audio DAC with SPDIF optical out and powerful stereo speakers with a subwoofer.
For those who prefer a smallified version, the MSI GT62VR is the 15.6” equivalent. If you want to go even higher end there's the MSI GT73VR Titan with Intel Core i7-6280HK overclockable CPU and GTX 1080 options and the GT83VR Titan SLI 18.4” model with SLI GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 graphics cards. The GT72VR is also available with a 120Hz wide color gamut display (not G-Sync).

Top Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Alternatives
Sadly the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been discontinued due to battery flaws that can result in fire, and Samsung has requested that all 2.5 million + units be returned for a refund. So what should you buy instead? There are several fine flagship (and a few less than flagship) models with 5.5” or larger screens to replace your once fabulous phablet, and we look at them in this video.

Acer Predator 17X (with 4K G-Sync Display) Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Acer Predator 17X, the top of the line in Acer's already high end Predator gaming laptop line. The 17X features an overclockable CPU and an NVIDIA desktop graphics card. Thanks to Braintree for supporting our channel. To learn more, and for your first $50,000 in transactions fee-free, go to http://www.braintreepayments.com/techreview .
The Predator 17X is a 17.3”, 10 lb. desktop replacement gaming rig with a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK quad core 45 watt unlocked CPU, 32 gigs of DDR4 RAM (64 gigs max), a fast 512 gig PCIe NVMe SSD, 1 TB HDD, Killer DoubleShot WiFi + Ethernet and an RGB backlit keyboard with macro keys. We look at the high end model with a wide color gamut 4K IPS matte display and NVIDIA G-Sync. This laptop has the desktop NVIDIA GTX 980 rather than the mobile part, and performance is noticeably stronger compared to the 980M. Our unit is priced at $3,199, and it's $2,799 with a 1080p display. When refreshed, we expect that Acer will move to the mobile GTX 1080. This laptop competes against higher end Alienware 17 configurations and other boutique gaming notebooks.

Laptops: What I Would and Wouldn't Buy, Oct. 2016 Edition
Lisa Gade helps you narrow down the choices when buying a laptop- from convertibles to Ultrabooks to Macs and gaming laptops. Sometimes it's OK to save money and go with last year's tech, other times it pays in the long run to go with the new technology (even if you have to wait). She covers Intel CPU generations, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9 and 10 series dedicated graphics, MacBook / MacBook Pro / MacBook Air models, whether this is a good time to buy Ultrabooks and convertibles like Surface Pro 4, and display resolution choices.

Lenovo ThinkPad X260 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad X260, a 12.5” business Ultrabook with plenty of ports, Lenovo's Power Bridge Battery system and 6th generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs options. The 2.9 lb. laptop may not be the skinniest, but it offers creature comforts that super-thin laptops lack- a very comfortable keyboard with good travel, removable batteries and a strong selection of ports including 3 USB 3.0, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, SD card and a WWAN LTE 4G SIM card slot.

HasselBlad True Zoom Moto Mod Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera Moto Mod for the Moto Z family of Android smartphones. The Hasselblad replaces your camera's sensor and lens with a 10x optical zoom lens (sweet!), with an equivalent 25-250mm zoom range. It has a 12MP 1/2.3” sensor with 1.55um pixel size. It has a Xenon flash, OIS for photos, EIS for 1080p @ 30fps video and a fairly limited macro mode. The Mod sells for $300 direct from Moto and $250 from Verizon Wireless in the US.

Camera Comparison: iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 & Note 7
Lisa Gade compares photos and video taken with the iPhone 7/ iPhone 7 Plus vs. the Samsung Galaxy S7 family (S7, S7 edge and Note 7). Both the iPhone 7 family and Galaxy S7 family have perhaps the best rear cameras you'll find in a smartphone today. Their specs are similar too: 12MP, an f/1.7 lens for the Samsung, f/1.8 for Apple, 4K video recording, slow motion, panorama and large pixel sites. Of course, the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera that sets it apart from Apple and Samsung's other phones. Who's the best? Watch our video!

iPhone 7 Plus Camera Portrait Mode Review
Lisa Gade tests, demonstrates and gives you her opinion on the new Portrait mode, aka bokeh or blurred background effect for the iPhone 7 Plus. The software generated background blur uses both lens to determine the subject and depth of field to simulate the bokeh you'd see with a wide aperture dSLR camera lens. It's a part of Apple's beta OS program right now, and will be available to all iPhone 7 Plus owners with an October 2016 update. We compare it to a Sony a7 camera with the very similar focal length 55mm f/1.8 Sony Zeiss lens.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus Review
Lisa Gade reviews Apple's 2016 flagship smartphone duo: the 4.7” iPhone 7 and the 5.5” iPhone 7 Plus. Both sport displays with wider P3 color gamut but the same resolution as their predecessors, and they run iOS 10 on the 2.3 GHz Apple A10 Fusion quad core, 64 bit CPU with 2 gigs of RAM on the 7 and 3 gigs of RAM on the 7 Plus. External changes are minimal but there are quite a few new features inside: IP67 water resistance, stereo speakers, larger storage capacities, 7MP 1080p front camera and improved rear cameras.
The iPhone 7 Plus has two rear camera lenses, both 12MP: a standard wide view lens and the new telephoto lens (56mm equivalent). The standard camera has OIS, as does the iPhone 7, but the tele lens lacks OIS. The headphone jack is gone, replaced by the Lightning connector, and Lightning earbuds and a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter are in the box. Battery life is improved, the home button is now solid state with haptic feedback.

LG V20 - the Pre-Review
Lisa Gade looks at the global unlocked LG V20 Android flagship smartphone with a 5.7” QHD display plus secondary display. As you might guess, this is the successor to the LG V10, and it's due out later this year. Ours is a late stage, but still pre-release model, so this is a “pre-review” rather than a final full review. The phone runs Android 7 Nougat on the Snapdragon 820 CPU with 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of storage. It has the same dual rear camera set up as the LG G5. The V20 has a removable 3200 mAh battery, which may seem particularly appealing to those who are concerned about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery fiasco. The phone has a high quality ESS Sabre audio DAC and it does have impressively good headphone audio. We expect it to be available on most major carriers, likely in October 2016.

Moto Z Play Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Moto Z Play, which is available as the Droid edition on Verizon Wireless in the US and as a GSM unlocked phone direct from Motorola's website. This is the most affordable Moto Z model at $408, but it's looks, materials and full compatibility with Moto Mods make it feel like a higher end Android smartphone. The Moto Z Play runs Android 6 Marshmallow on the octa-core Snapdragon 625 CPU with Adreno 506 graphics, 3 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of storage. It has a 5.5” 1920 x 1080 Super AMOLED display.
The phone has a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 2 TB, a 16MP rear camera with laser and phase detection autofocus as well as 4K video recording and a front 5MP camera. It has long battery life and a high capacity 3,500 mAh battery that supports fast charging (Turbo Charger included).

MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro (with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060) Review
Lisa Gade reviews the new MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro, a 15.6” slim and light gaming laptop with the new Pascal generation NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB DDR5 dedicated graphics. Graphics performance is fantastic and this is faster than the outgoing top GTX 980M card! Even more impressive, this 3.96 lb. laptop is extremely thin and light- rivaling the Dell XPS 15 but with much more gaming horsepower. Our review loaner came from www.xoticpc.com and has their optional lid decals and logo. They offer customization and upgrades for the gaming laptops they sell- from carbon fiber skins to RAM and SSD upgrades.
The laptop starts at $1,799 with a 1920 x 1080 matte IPS display, a 45 watt Intel Skylake 6th gen Core i7-6700HQ quad core processor, Intel HD 530 graphics switchable via NVIDIA Optimus with GTX 1060 dedicated graphics card (VR ready). It has 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM, a 256 gig PCIe SSD, 1TB HDD, Killer Ethernet and WiFi 802.11ac. It has a backlit RGB programable SteelSeries keyboard and 1080p webcam. Upgrading to the 4K matte IPS display adds $200. The Stealth Pro 15.6” has an impressive number of ports for a thin and light, including Thunderbolt 3/USB-C 3.1 port and Ethernet.

Lenovo ThinkPad 13 Chromebook Review
Lisa Gade reviews Lenovo's new business-oriented Chromebook, the ThinkPad 13 Chromebook, which shares much of the same hardware with its Windows 10 sibling, the ThinkPad 13. The ThinkPad 13 Chromebook has a 13.3” non-touch matte display, in your choice of 720p or 1080p resolution. It's available with unusually powerful CPUs for a Chromebook, with the higher end models having Intel Core i3-6100U and Core i5-6300U dual core processors. The base model ships with the more typical 1.6 GHz Intel Celeron 3855U.
The 3.2 lb. laptop is available with 4 or 8 gigs of DDR3L RAM and 16 or 32 gigs of eMMC storage. It has a 720p webcam, excellent ThinkPad keyboard (not backlit) and dual band Intel 7265N WiFi with Bluetooth 4.0. It meets 12 MIL-STD810 durability tests. The price starts around $385 and our high end model with Core i5, 8 gigs RAM, 32 gigs of storage and a full HD display is $850.

Huawei Honor 8 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Honor 8, Huawei's latest Android smartphone in their relatively affordable Honor line. This is a US-friendly unlocked 4G LTE GSM phone that supports AT&T and T-Mobile as well as many smaller carriers in the US and overseas carriers. It supports LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/20 with CAT6 LTE and VoLTE. The Honor 8 is clad in glass and aluminum and it has a 5.2” full HD display with wide color gamut. This is one of the few phones with an IR blaster AV remote control.
The Honor 8 runs Android 6 Marshmallow with Huawei's EMUI 4.1 UI. It uses their own hisilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor and it has 4 gigs of RAM and your choice of 32 or 64 gigs of storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 128 gigs. The phone has an 8MP front camera and 12MP dual rear cameras, much like the more expensive Huawei P9. It has dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC and a GPS. The 32 gig model is $399 and the 4 gig model is $449. Pre-orders start August 26, 2016 and it ships September 2.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Samsung's flagship for 2016 that replaces the Galaxy Note 5 (there is no Note 6!). The Note 7 has a 5.7” Super AMOLED 2560 x 1440 display that supports touch and the included S Pen (Wacom EMR active digitizer) with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The display's sides are curved and the phone is made of Gorilla Glass 5 and metal. Like recent competing high end Android smartphones, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad core CPU with Adreno 530 graphics. It has 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of internal storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 256 gigs.
The phone has myriad features including IP68 water resistance, both a fingerprint and iris scanner, LTE 4G, WiFi calling, VoLTE, NFC, fast charging over USB-C and fast wireless charging. It has the same excellent cameras as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge: 12MP rear with 4K video recording and a front 5MP camera. This Android 6 Marshmallow phone with a much improved TouchWiz UI lists for $879 in the US and it's available in silver, black, coral blue (gold available outside the US in some countries).

Lenovo ThinkPad P40 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad P40, a rare 2-in-1 convertible 14.1” mobile workstation. The ThinkPad P40 is largely a rebadged ThinkPad Yoga 460 (or ThinkPad Yoga 14, as it's still called in Best Buy stores). It adds NVIDIA Quadro M500M 2GB DDR5 dedicated graphics, a very good WQHD 2560 x 1440 IPS display option and a fingerprint reader to the consumer oriented Yoga 460 formula. It starts at $1,484 with the 1080p display and $1,722 with the WQHD display.
The P40 supports both touch and pen, and Lenovo's small pen is included in the built-in silo (you can buy a larger ThinkPad Pro pen for $40). This is the same Wacom AES digitizer and pen with 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity and palm rejection that we've reviewed In the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, ThinkPad Yoga 260 and Yoga 460. The 3.96 lb. (1.79kg) convertible laptop ships with Intel Skylake 6th gen Core i7 dual core 15 watt CPU and 8 or 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM in one RAM slot. It has a 2.5” SATA3 SSD in your choice of 256 or 512 gig capacities. Intel 8260AC dual band WiFi 802.11ac with Bluetooth is standard, as is a 720p webcam.

Dell Inspiron 17 7000 (7778) 2-in-1 Laptop Review
Lisa Gade reviews a truly big screen Windows 10 convertible laptop, the Dell Inspiron 17 7778 with a 17.3” 1920 x 1080 full HD touch screen. Though not everyone might want a convertible this large, it has applications for multiplayer casual gaming, DJ, playing virtual music instruments, and watching movies and viewing/editing photos in a big screen fashion.
Despite the big footprint, this is a relatively slim and light 17” laptop that weighs 6.2 lbs. (2.77 kg) and is 0.89” (22.6mm) thick. It's a light load compared to 17” notebooks from a few years back. The 2-in-1 is available with Intel Skylake 6th generation dual core 15 watt Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs, just like smaller Inspiron 7000 series models. It has NVIDIA 940MX 2GB DDR5 dedicated graphics. The Dell has 2 RAM slots for 8 to 16 gigs of DDR4 memory (you could upgrade to 32 gigs). It has both an M.2 SSD slot and a 2.5” drive bay. Pricing starts at $899 and our nicely configured Core i7 model with an SSD and HDD lists for $1,149.

2016 Dell Inspiron 7000 (7368) Review
Lisa Gade reviews the latest refresh of the Dell Inspiron 13 7000, released in the summer of 2016. The 7000 series is the top of the Inspiron line, but the price for a well-equipped machine is relatively reasonable at $749. This is a 13.3” 2-in-1 Windows 10 onvertible with a 360 degree hinge and a 1920 x 1080 IPS touch screen. It weighs 3.68 lbs. (1.75 kg) and has an aluminum casing.
The laptop is available Intel Skylake 6th generation Core i5-6200U and Core i7-6500U dual core, 15 watt CPUs with Intel HD 520 graphics. It has two DDR4 RAM slots and starts with 8 gigs of RAM. An M.2 256 gig SSD is standard and you can order it with a 512 gig SSD. It has a backlit keyboard and an infrared camera that works with Windows Hello facial recognition for login.

Acer Switch Alpha 12 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the latest MS Surface Pro 4 competitor, and one of the first to ship with Intel Skylake Core i5 and i7 CPUs rather than Core M- the Acer Switch Alpha 12. Despite the relatively low price- our Core i5 with 8 gigs RAM, 256 gig SS with keyboard and pen sells for $750 ($699 at Costco), the Acer has a slim aluminum casing, high quality IPS 2160 x 1440 display with touch and pen support and liquid cooling.
The tablet's included backlit keyboard is a near direct copy of the Surface Type Cover, and that's not a bad thing. It weighs 2.76 lbs. with keyboard cover and this Windows tablet is 0.6” thick. It has dual band WiFi 802.11ac with Bluetooth, a 2MP front camera and 5MP rear camera.

Bluboo Maya Unlocked Android Phone Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Bluboo Maya unlocked GSM dual SIM Android smartphone with 3G (but not 4G LTE) for AT&T on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. The phone will work with any GSM carrier for voice and 2G data. 2016 HP Omen 15 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the redesigned 2016 HP Omen 15, a budget-oriented 15.6” gaming laptop that's also available in a 17.3” size. Gone are the unibody milled aluminum casing and high quality aspirations for the Omen line, the Omen 15 and 17 are now plastic chassis laptops with a faux carbon fiber finish and red backlit keyboard that set it apart from the otherwise very similar (in terms of specs) HP Pavilion 15 high end configuration. The 15.6” model weighs 4.85 lbs. (2.2 kg) and the 17” weighs 6.3 lbs. (2.83kg).
The Omen 15 and Omen 17 start around $1,000 and the highest end configuration is under $1,500. Both have the Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad core 6th generation Skylake CPU, 8 to 16 gigs of RAM, an optional boot SSD, 2.5” 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD and a matte, non-touch display (1920 x 1080 and 4K are available). They're available with NVIDIA GTX 950M, 960M and 965M dedicated graphics. The Omen 15 competes with the Lenovo IdeaPad Y700, Dell Inspiron 15 7559 Gaming Edition and HP's own high end Pavilion 15.

Android Apps on Chromebook
Lisa Gade demonstrates Android apps and the Google Play Store running on the Acer Chromebook R11, one of three Chromebook models that currently support Android apps on Chrome OS (the Asus Chromebook Flip an the Pixel are the other two). Google will add this milestone feature to a host of Chromebooks later in 2016 and in 2017. If you own one of the three supported models, you can enable developer builds in your Chromebook's settings to try it yourself.
We test Evernote, Mission Impossible, Microsoft Word, Asphalt 8, note taking apps and more from the Play Store. We also compare the web vs. Android app version of some apps like MS Word (hint, the web version is often better suited to a laptop style device).
The Acer Chromebook R11 is an 11.6” Chrome OS laptop with a very pleasing 1366 x 768 IPS touch screen, 360 degree hinge, 4 gigs of RAM, a quad core Intel Celeron processor and an ample selection of ports. It sells for around $300.

Sony a7S II Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Sony a7s II, Sony's second generation full frame 35mm mirrorless camera that targets video shooters. We test it with a variety of Sony FE lens including the 55mm f/1.8, FE 24-70 f/4 and the FE 70-200mm f/4. The sample photos were taken without flash and we used no studio lights for sample video.
The a7S II can shoot 4K video internally as well as high bitrate 1080p footage and it has Sony's 5 axis IBIS (in-body image stabilization). The camera has Sony's 12.2MP EXMOR sensor an BIONZ X image processor (same as the last generation A7S). It features high ISO capabilities that make it an ideal low light and night camera for both photo and video. At $3,100 it's an expensive camera, but its quality sits well above more affordable prosumer options and it's still much cheaper than Canon cinema and RED cameras.
