HP Spectre x360 15t -- 15.6" Windows Convertible Review
Lisa Gade reviews the new, bigger HP Spectre x360, the 15.6” model 15t. The big Spectre is in many ways the 13.3” model we reviewed in 2015, only bigger. It’s still just 16.9mm thick and has the same unibody aluminum alloy natural silver casing with contrasting polished stainless steel sides and hinges. The big Spectre x360 runs on dual Core Intel Skylake 6th generation Ultrabook 15 watt CPUs (Core i5 and i7) with Intel HD 520 graphics Intel Iris optional in some markets). It weighs 4.1 lbs. and comes with an absolutely tiny and light charger.
It’s available with 1920 x 1080 full HD and 4K displays— both glossy with support for touch and the optional $60 HP Active Stylus (Synaptics pen). The laptop converts into a tablet and can do tent and presentation modes too via two 360 degree hinges. It’s one of the few large convertibles on the market, particularly with pen support. It has 8 or 16 gigs of RAM, a 256 or 512 gig SSD, dual band WiFi 802.11ac with Bluetooth and a webcam. Pricing ranges from $1,149 to $1,349.

Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad T460s, a 14” thin and light business Ultrabook that weighs 3 pounds. This is the slimmer T series model, refreshed with Intel Skylake Core i5 and i7 ULV 6th generation CPUs and Intel HD 520 graphics (NVIDIA 930M is optional in some countries). This laptop looks almost like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga because it’s so slim and tapered. It’s available with 1920 x 1080 matte IPS displays (touch and non-touch) or QHD 2560 x 1440 non-touch with higher brightness and color gamut. It’s passed 8 MIL-STD 810 tests for ruggedness and has a magnesium alloy internal structure.
The laptop starts around $1,000 for a Core i5 with 4 gigs of RAM, 128 gig SSD and 1080p non-touch display. Our 1080p touch model with 8 gigs of RAM and a 256 gig SSD sells for $1,300. It maxes out at 20 gigs of RAM, and there are higher capacity SSD options and PCIe NVMe SSD options. It has a backlit keyboard, optional WiGig, optional 4G LTE, Ethernet and an ample selection of ports.

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S Review- 12" Windows 2-in-1 AMOLED Tablet
Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro S, a 12” Windows 10 tablet / 2-in-1 with a vibrant Super AMOLED 2160 x 1440 display (3:2 aspect ratio). This Intel Core m3-6Y30 (Skylake, 6th gen) tablet has 4 gigs of RAM and a 128 gig SSD, and is priced the same as the entry Surface Pro 4 model with similar specs at $899.

Samsung includes the keyboard folio in the box, but not the optional TabPro pen. This full Windows 10 64 bit tablet is as slim and light as Samsung’s high end Galaxy Android tablets— 0.25” and 1.53 lbs. It’s classy looking and well made— much like Samsung’s ATIV Book laptops. The tablet has dual band Qualcomm Atheros WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC.

Lenovo ThinkPad P70 Review
Lisa Gade reviews Lenovo’s first mobile Intel Xeon laptop, the ThinkPad P70. This is a 7.6 lb. 17” mobile workstation for product design and engineering, CAD, 3D, financial simulations, movie editing and more. For those who prefer something smaller, there’s the Lenovo ThinkPad P50, a 5.6 lb. 15.6” version with the same features except its dedicated graphics that cap at the NVIDIA Quadro M2000M vs. the M4000M 4GB in our P70). The P70 starts at $1,860, and our higher end model sells for $3,500. It’s available with a 1080p or 4K matte non-touch display with high color gamut and optional X-Rite calibration device built into the keyboard deck.
The ThinkPad P70 is available with Intel Skylake 6th generation quad core i7 CPUs or our 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon E3-1505M v5 quad core CPU. Either way, you’re getting a 45 watt CPU with Intel 530 graphics, but the Xeon is clocked a bit higher, supports ECC RAM and has a larger 8MB cache vs. 6MB for the Core i7. The laptop has DDR4 RAM up to 64GB, two M.2 slots (ours has a PCIe SSD), a 2.5” drive bay and a DVD burner. It has two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports, ethernet and plenty more ports. Internals are easily serviceable and the 96 WHr battery is removable.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, the bigger and curvier of Samsung’s glass and metal flagship phones for 2016. The edge model’s 5.5” display curves on the sides for a unique and very attractive look, though it is a bit harder to grip. The Galaxy S7 family brings back two important features missing from the S6: a microSD card slot and water resistance. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphone has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, the top of the line 2.1 GHz quad core Snapdragon 820 CPU (US model, other countries may get the Exynos CPU), 4 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 200 gigs.
The Galaxy S7 edge has an excellent 5.5" 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display with several color profiles and high brightness, 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC, a fingerprint scanner and a GPS. It has a front 5MP camera and a new 12MP rear camera with fast auto-focus, very good low light capabilities, 4K video recording and OIS. The phone has a 3,600 mAh battery that’s sealed inside. The Galaxy supports fast charging and wireless charging. In the US it sells for $800 full retail, approximately $100 more than the standard Galaxy S7 reviewed here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBlocTarL7g .

Samsung Galaxy S7 Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung’s smaller glass and metal flagship phone for 2016. The Galaxy S7 brings back two important features missing from the S6: a microSD card slot and IP68 water resistance. At first glance it looks much like the Galaxy S6, but it has curved sides on the back for a surer and comfier grip. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphone has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, the top of the line Snapdragon 820 CPU (US model, other countries may get the Exynos CPU), 4 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 200 gigs.
The phone has a lovely 5.1" 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display, LTE 4G, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and a GPS. It has a front 5MP camera and a new 12MP rear camera with fast auto-focus, very good low light capabilities, 4K video recording and OIS. The Galaxy has a 3,000 mAh battery that’s sealed inside. In the US it sells for $700 full retail. For those who prefer a bigger screen phone and/or a display with curved sides, there’s the 5.5” Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for $800 that we’ll review separately.

Though Razer’s laptops have been pricey, the Stealth is a value proposition that gives the Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo Yoga 900 a run for your money. It starts at $999 for a nicely equipped Core i7 model with a QHD IGZO touch screen, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM and a 128 gig PCIe SSD. The top of the line $1,599 model has a 4K IGZO display and a 512 gig SSD, and there are 2 models in between it and the base model. The Razer Blade Stealth weighs 2.75 lbs., is 0.5” thin and it has a Chroma RGB backlit keyboard. Killer WiFi is standard as is a 2MP webcam and stereo speakers with Dolby audio. The laptop has a USB-C 3.1/Thunderbolt 3 port, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and a 3.5mm audio jack. It uses the same dual core 15 watt i7 CPU with Intel HD 520 graphics as many other Ultrabooks on the market, and it’s thus not a gaming laptop until the Razer Core is available.
